The Businessman is a thought-provoking fine art print that explores the complex relationship between professional life and personal identity, drawing inspiration from the Japanese cultural phenomenon of Otaku.

In Japan, Otaku refers to someone with a deep, obsessive passion for a particular subject—often one that exists outside conventional societal roles. This artwork, part of the broader photography project I Am Your Mirror, delves into the tension between conformity and self-expression, challenging viewers to reflect on their own identities.

In this piece, the subject chose to be portrayed through his passion for Shibari, a traditional Japanese form of intricate rope work. Meaning “to tie,” Shibari becomes a powerful metaphor for the invisible constraints and emotional weight imposed by the rigid structure of corporate life.

The Businessman reflects the world of Japanese salarymen—professionals expected to dedicate their lives to a single employer, often at the cost of personal freedom. Through Shibari, the photograph reveals the quiet conflict between a polished public image and a suppressed inner self.

This limited edition black and white fine art print invites reflection on identity, repression, and resilience. A compelling piece for collectors seeking work that speaks to the deeper layers of the human experience.
