Intensive workshop at Lab Creation: 'photography, practice and identity'
Updated: Sep 17, 2023
On February 22 and 23, 2020, at LAB Creation in Mesagne, I organized an intensive photography workshop titled 'Photography, Practice, and Identity.'
This workshop aimed to explore photography as a therapeutic art form for both the subject and the photographer.
I presented the participants (Nunzio, Agnese, Licia, Francesco, Andrea, Antonella, Davide, and Roberta) with two options: either take a self-portrait or use the photographic medium in a non-invasive way to allow the photographed subject to express their inner self. I encouraged them to connect with one another, ask intimate questions, and approach the complex inner universes we all possess with empathy.
Each participant approached the theme in their unique way.
Some took introspective approaches, while others engaged playfully, and some ventured into more silent and contemplative modes.
They worked in pairs, except for Agnese, who chose to work alone.
Below, you can find some behind-the-scenes pictures I captured with my cellphone as they were working. It was a fascinating experience to observe how each participant approached their subjects.
We utilised the space at Lab Creation for the photo sessions, working exclusively with natural light.
Very interesting results.
Andrea e Nunzio
Truth, exposure to light ... and taking refuge in the shadows ...
Davide e Licia
Shyness, embarrassment ... and empathy ...
Agnese (self-portrait)
Dialogue with myself - "I'm afraid to let the other me out" ... art as therapy ...
Francesco e Antonella
The game, what we want to show about us ...
It was a wonderful experience.
I really enjoyed the energy between us. Photography is truth and above all it is memory.
